Harmony

I thought I'd known love once or twice
But each relationship had a painful price
Obsession, infatuation, and being dependent
I thought I knew what love meant
But this is a "50-year" marriage's simple recipe:
Compassion, trust, honor, and honesty
Between two people that cement and bind
Hearts, spirits, and lives become one
Allowing growth-leaving selfishness behind
A shared love with mutual devotion
Breathless beauty emerges triumphant-wise
as two lives sing out and harmonize
